I decided to be a bit contrarian. When sunflowers bloom in Yolo county, locals and tourists flock for photos of them in the sun. So I took some shots of them under the light of the moon.
I took these photos back in December of last year and stumbled across them again cleaning out my Lightroom catalogue. I'd posted a couple in black and white and had always meant to post more, specifically ones in color. So here they are, finally.
As every year in Yolo County, June/July is the season of blooming Sunflowers. Got a bit more on top of it this year than last in terms of getting shots while they're still fresh; hoping to get more soon.
When I moved to Rhode Island, I didn't see many of these. Coming back to California, I've realized how characteristic they are of this time of year in the suburbs. Like (probably) most suburban Californian children, I would go to these stands on the 3rd of 4th with my dad who I would then attempt to talk into getting the biggest pack of fireworks available for us to set off with whichever relatives we were visiting that year.
I came across this particular stand at the back of a massive Walmart parking lot in your typical massive stucco strip mall; a classic TNT booth location. Happy 4th of July. |
