#BigAssRally at UC Davis in solidarity with fired UCSC graduate student strikers / #COLAstrike3/2/2020 This afternoon the UC Davis for COLA movement held a rally and march in solidarity with recently fired UC Santa Cruz graduate student strikers. UCD students gathered at the Memorial Union flagpole where several organizers spoke. The crowd was led first in a prayer, then updates on and hope for the movement, followed by chants and song. A march followed after to the Mrak Hall administrative building where additional students spoke. At the end of the rally students were led once more in song before breaking into affinity groups for discussion. Visit the UC Davis for Cola website for more information. The valley has been suffering some nasty air quality the past week or so as a result of the massive fires up north, the Carr Fire in Redding and the Mendocino Complex Fires (River and Ranch)--and perhaps the Ferguson fire in Yosemite as well--have been sending smoke our way making the days hazy and gray. A few nights ago when I went out for a walk, the smell of smoke was thick in the air and the moon was orange from the smoke still lingering in the sky.
Sunflower season is here again, and the blooms are big and bright along Poleline Road. Though my car is proving too unreliable to risk heading to the volatile County Fire (which I had rather wanted to shoot), I contented myself today shooting the sunflowers in Davis against a smoky sunset backdrop.
"Hometown & Stomping Ground" The small town and big city that have defined my life and hold my heart. Come see my newest exhibit which will be on display this November at The Avid Reader called "Hometown & Stomping Ground", a photo essay exploring my adopted hometown of Davis, California and surrounding Yolo County, and the big beautiful city of Providence, Rhode Island and its nearby coasts and country, where I lived and learned as a young adult. An artists reception will be held on November 10th from 6:30pm-7:30pm where you can see my work, meet me, and sample a variety of foods representative of each region. There will also be live music by the very talented guitarist and singer/songwriter Adam Mish! "Hometown & Stomping Ground" On Display at The Avid Reader 617 2nd Street, Davis November 10th - December 6th, 2017 Artist Reception: November 10th 6:30pm - 7:30pm I decided to be a bit contrarian. When sunflowers bloom in Yolo county, locals and tourists flock for photos of them in the sun. So I took some shots of them under the light of the moon.
I took these photos back in December of last year and stumbled across them again cleaning out my Lightroom catalogue. I'd posted a couple in black and white and had always meant to post more, specifically ones in color. So here they are, finally.
